ABOUT

I am fascinated by patterns, nature, shapes, colour and anything quirky and out of the ordinary.  My art is a mixture of Islamic geometry combined with the contemporary techniques of today, whilst honouring the traditions of the old.  Themes of inspiration involve biomorphs, nature, cosmos, incorporated into dots, paintings and fine line drawings.

It is my belief that Islamic art is open to all interpretations, and fundamentally, connects the boundaries, keeping a contemporary twist, whilst adding modernity.  The paintings and drawings created try to convey the feeling of ‘falling in’, showing depth and aerial perspective into most of the pieces created.

When not at home creating art, working or doing yoga, I can mainly be found in an art gallery, museum or park in London, looking at (more) art and other sources of inspiration.

ABOUT ME

As a child I always had a passion for art, but didn’t pursue it until much later, due to the beliefs around art and being an artist.  Around 2013, I would visit galleries and museums around Mayfair and Soho most lunchtimes with my colleague Johnny. The crucial point came when I was made redundant from the corporate sector, and decided to travel South-East Asia.

Whilst travelling Asia, I stumbled upon a job at an art shop/studio in KL. The discovery of being able to create, bringing ideas up to the fore, would eventually lead to freelance work, teaching children and adults art journaling, art lessons to disadvantaged children, raising funds for a charity auction to help them and painting a bird mural on Genting Helipad.

When I returned from my travels, I attended weekly portrait drawing classes at the National Portrait Gallery, and life drawing classes.  I loved the honesty involved in drawing the human form.  However, I always had a passion for patterns, colour and abstract work, and seeked something that would use my left brain and right brain together.  I discovered Islamic geometry drawing classes with Samira Mian at Cass Art, signed up for a session, and became immediately hooked.  What I love about it is that I get to use maths, art, problem solving and creativity all in one.  It’s changed my perspective on seeing the world, noticing the tiny details, and looking more in depth at patterns, and how they correlate to the Great Everything.

Every day when I enter the room and see ‘Whimsical Expression’ hanging there, it delights me all over again. The beautiful piece has filled a space in my heart and in my home!
